Brisbane sells humidity as a personality. Faces still chap. The barrier — lipids, corneocytes, pH — is the reason. This is the practical page in everyday skin care.

What “repair” means here

It means reducing water loss and irritation while you use bland products. It does not mean new dermal collagen by Friday. Keep collagen, elastin and the skin barrier next to this tab so the words stay honest.

The local villains

Air-conditioning on the 15th floor. Swimming and not rinsing. Festival sunscreen left overnight. A “brightening” set bought after a late scroll. Each one is optional.

A small routine beats a cabinet

Gentle cleanse, moisturiser you will actually repeat, sunscreen in the morning. Pause extras until stinging with water stops. If you need a product family explained, use retinoids as a warning label, not a to-do.

After clinic treatments

Peels and abrasion leave a thinner surface. Repair instructions from the clinic override this page. For context only: aftercare after a facial skin treatment.

Do not confuse shine with health

Sebum can sit on a damaged wall. Mattifying powders then irritate it. Simplify before you book microdermabrasion to “fix texture”.

When to change doors

Persistent dermatitis belongs with a GP or dermatologist. Who to see. This publication will not diagnose you from a description.

Questions readers ask

How can skin be dry when the air feels wet?

Humidity is not the same as an intact lipid barrier. Sweat, hard water, air-conditioning and detergents can leave skin tight in a storm.

Is oily and dry at once a real thing?

Yes. The surface can shine with sebum while the barrier stings. That pattern is a reason to simplify, not to add a fourth acid.

When is dryness a reason to see a doctor?

If there is cracking, oozing, pain, a sudden rash, or it is not settling. Eczema and other diagnoses need a clinician, not another blog routine.

Can I repair a barrier the night before a peel?

You can be kinder that night. You cannot rebuild a wall on demand. Tell the clinic and expect a delay.
