Microdermabrasion, what to expect
How clinic microdermabrasion is usually described, who might be asked to wait, and how Brisbane heat changes the hours after a session — without promised smoothness.

Microdermabrasion is a clinic treatment that mechanically sloughs the outer stratum corneum. The archived Anti Wrinkle Brisbane site listed it next to peels. It is still a phrase people search when they want “something done” without immediately talking about prescription medicines.
This explainer lives in clinic skin treatments.
What the device is doing
A handpiece abrades or vacuums the surface. The aim, in textbook language, is a more even outer layer and a short window of extra product penetration. Textbooks are not your face. Operators vary. Skin varies.
Who is often asked to wait
Active infection, recent isotretinoin, open eczema, sunburn and some acne presentations are common reasons to postpone. Your practitioner decides. Do not talk a therapist into treating a cold sore.
The consultation is still a consultation
Even a “lunchtime” booking should include history. If you are also considering other procedures, say so. Interactions and stacking belong in questions to ask before a facial procedure.
Aftercare is mostly boring and local
Shade, bland moisturiser, and no new acids that night are typical themes. Brisbane humidity can make leftover grit and sunscreen feel messy; that is comfort, not failure. Full notes: aftercare after a facial skin treatment.
What we will not say
We will not say your skin will look a particular way on Friday. We will not publish a client quote. We will not imply that abrasion replaces photoprotection. UV remains the long game: Queensland sunscreen and UV.
How it sits beside everyday exfoliation
Home scrubs and cloths are not the same intensity or hygiene control. Read everyday exfoliation versus clinic treatments before you double up.
If someone sells a package of twelve
Ask what happens if your skin is not suitable on visit four. Packages should not overrule examination. Money questions stay separate from outcome claims.
Questions readers ask
Is microdermabrasion the same as a chemical peel?
No. Microdermabrasion is a mechanical polish of the outer surface. A peel uses acids or similar agents to accelerate shedding. They can be sequenced in some plans, but they are not interchangeable. See the peel article.
Will I be red afterwards?
Some people are pink or feel tight. Others notice little. That range is why we do not publish “day one glow” stories. Ask your practitioner what they see in similar skin types.
Can I have it the day before an outdoor wedding?
Timing is individual. Heat, makeup and alcohol sit on the aftercare list. Do not plan from a stranger’s timeline.
Did the old Brisbane site offer this?
Yes. Archived menus listed microdermabrasion beside peels and consultations. This page is educational, not a restoration of that service.
