Aftercare and recovery

Heat, exercise and travel after a clinic visit

Why Brisbane summers, gyms, saunas and airport queues belong in the aftercare conversation, and which questions to ask before you book the procedure next to a holiday.

People book treatments in the same week they book Noosa. The climate does not care about the deposit. This page is the diary companion to aftercare after a facial skin treatment.

Heat increases blood flow and swelling

That can be ordinary or unhelpful depending on what was done. Midday errands, hot yoga and a car without air-conditioning are all heat. Ask for limits in hours and days, not vibes.

Exercise is a dose

A gentle walk in shade is not a PB at a humid gym. Say what you actually do. Cyclists who climb Mount Coot-tha on Saturdays should say that out loud.

Travel is a stack of problems

Dry cabins, disrupted sleep, different tap water, and delayed review appointments. If you will be in another city, ask who to call. Bruising, swelling and when to seek help is not a substitute for a local clinician.

Water and salt

Swimming pools, the lagoon and the ocean all have chemistry. So does sweat under a hat. Confirm swimming. Then do it or do not.

Work that is already hot

Kitchens, warehouses, outdoor teaching. Your employer will not rewrite physics. You may need to choose a cooler week for the appointment. That is logistics, not vanity.

Holidays are not cooling-off

A resort is a poor place to notice a complication. Use cooling-off periods before you lock the procedure to the trip.

Sun remains the long problem

Even when swelling settles, UV does not. Queensland sunscreen and UV.

Questions readers ask

Can I work out the same day?

Many clinicians ask people to wait. Heat and a raised heart rate can worsen swelling. Ask for a specific window rather than guessing from a group chat.

Is a flight a problem?

Cabin air is dry and you cannot easily lie down or find your clinician at 30,000 feet. Long-haul soon after some procedures is a planning issue. Raise it before you pay for either ticket.

What about a sauna or steam room?

Heat is the point of those rooms. That is often the opposite of early aftercare. Assume no until you are told otherwise.

Does humidity count as heat?

Humidity changes how you sweat and how products sit. It is part of Brisbane aftercare even when the Bureau says 28 degrees.
